Southeast’s Food Pantry is managed and operated by volunteers from the church, and was established to show the love of Christ in a practical way by providing basic food items to area residents who need assistance.
Open every third Sunday from 2pm-4pm.
Everyday people are stuggling to put food on their tables. 1 in 6 Americans struggles with hunger and one-third of those people are children.Though most of the people we serve are from the community, many people from other communities benefit from our assistance. The Food Pantry distributes over 175 baskets of food per month, which is enough to feed over 478 people.
The food we distribute is purchased from the Cleveland Food Bank and as an affiliate we adhere to their required guidelines and procedures. In addition to the food that we distribute, we also inform our clients of other resources and services that may be available to them.
An important way that you can help support this ministry is through prayer, especially for our workers and the people we serve. We need regular volunteers to pack food bags and stock food. Another way that you can help is by making monetary donations.

At Southeast we have a Deaf Ministry service that utilizes the skills of deaf and hearing members to glorify God. “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost.” II Corinthians 4:3.
It is our prayer that no one is lost, and that includes our deaf brothers and sisters. It is for this reason that we teach sign language to our members as well as to those in the community. We offer sign language classes at the beginners, intermediate and advance level.
Choir
Our Deaf Ministry also has a sign choir, Hands-In-Ministry (H.I.M.). This is a choir that exists for the purpose of knowing Jesus Christ and making Him known to others. Our choir is a family. The music that we select has deep meaning to us. It reflects our commitment to the Lord and hopefully it gives inspiration to those who watch us sign.
We are often invited to fellowship with other churches in the community and most recently we have been on programs at Lee Memorial A.M.E. Church, Mt. Gillion Baptist Church, Affinity Baptist Church, Holy Trinity Baptist Church and Progressive Baptist Church. We are always looking for new choir members and you don’t have to know sign language. The Media Ministry is an important and vital aspect of the worship experience. The media ministry team uses a combination of sound, video, and computer technologies to present a message of Christ. We are the silent group that uses our talent in audio, graphic, video and lighting. We provide live text, graphics, and video for worship services. We record and archive videos of each and every service. We push ourselves to stay on the cutting edge of technology and expand according to the church’s needs. During church service, the media ministry is a support service for the pastor, music ministry and the church members. The Media Team is composed of two primary areas: sound and visuals. The sound and visuals personnel provide audiovisual technical support for worship services.
SOUND Technicians
Our Sound Team consists of technicians who support the audio needs for speakers, musicians, actors, video/DVD presentations, etc. The sound board operator is a key element in our church worship. The person has direct control over all audio output during service, church productions, and special events. Potential team members have the opportunity to shadow and work alongside current team operators before making any commitments. Typically, those that make the best sound techs are very detail oriented, can stay focused under pressure, and can think quick on their feet. It is also necessary to have had some measure of musical training or experience.
CAMERA Technicians
We currently have four video cameras that we use for worship service and other programs here at Southeast. Our live video feed is later edited and uploaded to our website. We also send live feed to our “mother’s room” and the main halls during services and special occasions; like baptisms and baby dedications.
Throughout the year there are many opportunities to video major events and special projects. Those that make good camera techs are very detail oriented, can stay focused, and can operate a camera for over an hour without physical fatigue.
COMPUTER SUPPORT Technicians
Supported by three large front‐and one rear projection screen in the Sanctuary, our Computer Support Team uses the computer software program MediaShout and ProPresenter to provide song lyrics, Bible verses, video graphics, PowerPoint presentations, and sermon outlines for our services.
Team members should have intermediate level computer skills (including the ability to navigate between computer directories), be able to work well with others, be flexible and be able to work under time constraints. A “feel for music” is helpful, but not required.
PHOTO Team
If you have ever been to an activity at Southeast, you might have noticed photographers taking pictures so that we can capture the special moments of the event. The Photo Team helps us see what happens in the life of Southeast Seventh‐day Adventist Church. The Media Team is a great place to serve if you like to listen to music or if you like to work with computers and video equipment. If you are interested in finding out more about serving on one of these teams, there is an opportunity to observe the team for a couple of weeks prior to making a commitment. Training generally takes place “on the job” working alongside a veteran member of the team. Come and join a fun and creative group of people using their gifts and talents for God.

City Mission Outreach
The City Mission Outreach Ministry is a partnership with the local City Mission organization that is an umbrella for many outreach programs in the Cleveland community. We have been working with Men’s crisis center since 2010 and have been providing hot meals throughout year to the homeless men’s shelter. Every even month on 2nd Saturday the ministry meets from 4-6 pm to prepare and serve these men. Come out and, not only be a blessing but to receive a blessing. We also provide spiritual literature for the men weekly and for 2019 we were able to provide Christmas gifts to the men with the generous help of our church members.
Community Outreach
Ward 1 Clean up Day
The Southeast Community Outreach Team, participated in the Ward 1 Clean up Day. The event was a huge success, in no small part due to Southeast members, our students, and Ramah Junior Academy assistance.
The Volunteers made an impressive sight on Lee Road and Tarkington. It was definitely a good day and turn out! Thank you again for stepping up and getting involved. We really appreciated having you there!
iMpacT Wed Ward 1 Open Public Forum
Residents were invited to join Councilman Terrell H. Pruitt at Southeast for the first in a series of iMpact Wednesday for the Ward 1 Community.
Mr. Pruitt discussed Cleveland's redevelopment of the Lee and Miles intersection and the continuing development of Kerruish Park. He also spoke about neighborhood improvement and other topics of interest to the Ward 1 Community. Residents asked questions, expressed concerns and ideas in this open forum to meet the Councilman and get more involved with their Community.
You've Heard of the Senior Prom
More than 50 seniors from Southeast and the Ward 1 community dressed in formal wear and attended a very special Senior Prom. Sponsored by the Community Outreach Ministry, this beautiful gala featured Funkdafied Jazz live band, red carpet, valet service, escorts, dinner and much more.
According to the Southeast Seniors Community Outreach Team, "Everyone looked just beautiful. We had a good time serving them because our seniors are special to us and they deserved this day and many more".

Deliverance is a process of allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal and remove anything in our lives that opposes God's will. Through surrender and trust in Him, we can overcome forces that seek to harm us and be restored to the peace and wholeness that Christ offers. As members of the Social Committee, our desire is to see Church members some closer together by enjoy Christian fellowship.
It is our intention to plan social events throughout the year that provide opportunities to meet with and enjoy each other’s company and to support the idea of community within the Church.

Members, family and friends of Southeast were treated to a festive winter gala at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This holiday event was enjoyed by all who attended and everyone was treated to good food, music, poetry and Christian comedy.
A very special thank you is extended to the planners of this event, Kaye Gilleylen and Denise Brooks, along with their assistants Shirley Boger and Dawn Carter.
A special thank you also goes out to Pastor Jerome Hurst and Lady Carolyn Hurst.
The evening was a huge success and additional thanks is extended to those who participated: Steven Fowler, pianist; Myron Gardner, drummer and David Harp, guitarist. Also lending to the afternoon's festivities were Rev. Timothy Eppinger, who served as the Master of Ceremonies; Lucretia Bolden, soloist and Tiffany Evans, poetess. Jay Stevens provided more than thirty minutes of good Christian comedy. This was a gala to remember and everyone there enjoyed the food, fellowship and entertainment. This was truly an afternoon to remember.
Excitement was in the air as brave hearted Southeast members travelled to the Chalet Metroparks toboggan Chutes Strongsville Ohio in search of a winter thrill. The young and young at heart endured chilly temp, long lines and a 124 steep stairway to the top of the toboggan drop.
More than 40 Southeast members took in the fun on Sunday. There were ten or more who travelled in the Southeast van, driven by co-Head deacon, Gary King.
The day began in prayer as a small group, a caravan of five vehicles met in the Southeast parking lot. It was hard to say who was the most excited, the youth, the adults or those who accompanied them, to cheer them on. Afterwards, everyone gathered in the chalet for hot chocolate and fellowship.
The Southeast Social Committee sponsored a social event “Zip City”, the indoor Trampoline Park located in Streetsboro Ohio. Over 50 people were in attendance including children, young adults and adults young at heart. Everyone had an amazing experience as they propelled down 220 feet of zip line, traveling speeds of up to 20 mph. You just couldn’t get enough.

The purpose of the Visitation Ministry is to assist the Pastor in carrying out assigned tasks related to pastoral ministry; to be available for spiritual and emotional support; and to provide spiritual and pastoral care to Southeast members in times of illness, hospitalization and other crises.
Every single member of Southeast can be a part of the Ministry of Visitation. If you have been wondering what you can do to make a difference in someone’s life, or how you can get involved within the church family, this is the ministry for you. We can use willing workers officially or unofficially:
- Officially, you can sign up as a member of the ministry and be given assignments
- Unofficially, you can work on your own to make visitations or phone calls, send cards or flowers, take food, or just help someone in their time of need (see Matthew 25:31-46)
There are many people on our sick and shut-in list, as well as others in need of our services. We want to have enough people in this ministry so that all reported persons can be cared for. This is especially important as we approach the holiday times in the closing months of the year.
