Born in a Truck Stop

After gathering for the first time on Easter morning in 1990 on a lot on North Gate Blvd purchased for a future United Methodist Church, a hearty group of neighbors and folks from other area United Methodist Churches began the process of planting a new church in Colorado Springs’ growing northern edge.

A physical location for the new church to worship in was provided in an abandoned Truck Stop at I-25 and Baptist Rd. The new church grew rapidly and posted a sign outside that read: “We can’t change your oil, but we can change your life!”

When that site was condemned due to soil contamination, the church temporarily rented space from another local congregation on Sunday afternoons. As their growth continued, they moved to a rented building in Downtown Monument, soon increased to 3 buildings to house their expanding faith community.

In 2006, the church officially named itself “Tri-Lakes United Methodist Church” and moved into their new building on 40 acres in northern El Paso County, near County Line Rd. and Highway 83.

Throughout its history, Tri-Lakes UMC has been motivated in all they do by the commands of Jesus to love God and neighbor!

Tri-Lakes UMC Today

Today, Tri-Lakes UMC is a vibrant, friendly congregation, reaching out in witness and service to neighbors in our own backyard and around the world.

Our members are involved in a number of missions and activities that share God’s love in Jesus Christ with all.

These Include:
  • Working with Tri-Lakes Cares in Monument to feed, house, and empower persons facing economic and life challenges.
  • Supporting Global Hope orphanages and residents in Romania and India.
  • Offering one of the largest Vacation Bible Schools in the area every July.
  • Sending youth and adults on life-transforming Mission Trips to sites across the country and abroad.
  • Fostering and supporting programs like the SEW Coalition, a suicide prevention collaboration with El Paso County schools and youth-serving organizations.
  • Hosting community groups such as clubs, HOAs, and educational seminars in our facility.
